Vegetarian Crispy Coconut Tofu. I was drawn to the current recipe as a result of it had only a few ingredients and appeared foolproof. I used egg replacer rather than egg whites and it worked nice, sticking like glue to the bread crumbs and coconut. whereas the coating was tasty, crunchy and sweet, the tofu within was bland. Marinating it beforehand would jack up the flavour – maybe coconut milk, or one thing tangy like rice vinegar? I’m open to suggestions for next time – what does one think?

Vegetarian Crispy Coconut Tofu Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup liquid egg substitute (or 2 egg whites)
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut


Vegetarian Crispy Coconut Tofu Steps:

  1. Wrap the tofu in a very towel and place one thing significant on high. Let sit for 20-30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place a silpat on a baking sheet, or spray it with non-stick spray.
  2. Pour the egg substitute or egg whites in a very shallow dish. combine along the bread crumbs and coconut and pour onto a plate.
  3. Slice the tofu crosswise into slabs (I got a couple of dozen from my block). Season the tofu wedges with salt and pepper. Dip all into the egg substitute, then dredge within the bread mixture and set on the baking sheet.
  4. Bake for concerning 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, till gently browned and crispy on either side.
